Along with the start of the NBA season is the start of the fantasy basketball season where LeBron also contends as the most valuable fantasy basketball player.
Although compared to fantasy football, fantasy basketball is merely an after thought. Nevertheless, the NBA could take advantage of the growth of fantasy sports to grow it NBA business. But one of the ongoing questions for fantasy sports is it's legality.
Marc Edelman, Associate Professor at Zicklin School of Business, City University of New York's Baruch College, provide a great summary of the legal state of fantasy basketball.
FtSb says: It was the passion of the sports fan that helped propelled the growth of fantasy sports along with the serendipitous technological advances of the internet and content management system that brought fantasy football to the mainstream.
There is a new trend in the growth of fantasy sports and that is the daily games. This growth uses money prizes to lure new players for participation to its fantasy games. The daily game growth is also one of the key issues in question if fantasy sports is considered gambling because the daily game introduces more uncertainty that could categorize fantasy sports as more of a game of chance than a game of skill.
They cadence of the daily games may align better with basketball because of the amount that are played throughout the week. So it could be a perfect match for the NBA to embrace daily game. The question remains does the NBA want to play in this legal arena.
