24 hour fantasy sports network to launch in 2014, spouses cry foul
Fantasy Sports Zone TV is planning to launch an all fantasy sports television network in 2014. Programming will cover fantasy football, basketball, baseball, racing, hockey, and golf that will include the professional and college level. The 24 hour channel will cover 3000 hours of programming to cover news as well as advice information. Furthermore it will include information on both weekly and daily games.
The endeavor will be lead by Steve Friedman, a former President at Saxon Communications and ION Television and Jeff Saganszy, a former president at CBS Entertainment.
FtSb Says: This is an ecosystem expansion of the content providers into the television medium. Although there are a growing number of show devoted to fantasy sports such as the NFL Redzone, dedication of an entire network is a bold statement to the robustness of fantasy sports.
In order for the network to succeed will rely on its distribution as well as its diversity in programming. Although fantasy football is a sustainable fantasy sport, the problem is that it does not occur year round. The challenge will be if it can attract enough in March when only fantasy basketball and hockey are carrying the network.
