As fantasy football season crested its mid-season so did web traffic
For October 2013, comScore Media Metrix no longer lists fantasy sports in the top 10 for percentage gain for websites. This was a coming from a 9% increase in unique visitors in August to a 5% increase in unique visitors in September for the Online gambling category to which fantasy sports websites are categorized.
For the month of October it was retail groups and news websites that covered the U.S. government shutdown that garnered the largest percentage increase in visitors.
Yahoo sites continued to claim the #1 spot in terms of total visitors and has remained at the top since July 2013. ESPN is listed at 23rd place with 42 million unique visitors. That is down from 45 million unique visitors in the month of September. The NFL Internet Group which appeared in 44th place with 27 million unique visitors in the month of September did not make the top 50 lists in October.
FtSb says: The NFL starts with a bang at the beginning of the season when it comes to web traffic. Last year's comScore also showed similar growth in September and then decreases to sites such as NFL.com in the month of October.
