NFL may eliminate the extra point, kickers will work for food
Roger Goodell may do away with the extra point after a touchdown. Because the PAT are almost always converted it doesn't offer much excitement to the flow of the game according to the NFL commissioner.
Of the ideas in place to replace the PAT would include automatically awarding 7 points for a touchdown. The team would then have the option to try for a 1 point conversion for 8 points. However, if unsuccessful 1 point would be docked from their score. Other ideas would be to also go to a straight 2 point conversion try after every game.
FtSB says: Kicking field goals are not on the chopping park so it is not all doomsday for NFL kickers. What is of note is the NFL commissioner is looking very closely at the flow of the game and is not afraid of removing what has been a traditional play in football. Contrast this to MLB baseball that has not seen any changes to the flow of the game in quite some time yet the average time of baseball games has increased to almost 3 hours per game. The NFL is more willing to make changes to its core game for the better of the game. However, MLB is still reluctant to go that route. Thus any changes necessary to say make the fantasy sport better is more likely to happen in the NFL than MLB.
