Yahoo acquires fantasy football search engine, SkyPhrase
In its continuing buying spree, Yahoo has acquired the search engine start up SkyPhrase.
Skyphrase was featured in this FantasySandbox profile for its innovative feature set to address fantasy football researching for owners. SkyPhrase also possess other technology to enable natural language querying and Yahoo could integrate this ability into their cadre of search features.
This marks about 20 other start up technologies that Yahoo has acquired since Marissa Mayer has taken the helm as CEO. Financial details of this acquisition for SkyPhrase was not disclosed.
FtSb says: This acquisition is no surprise. SkyPhrase technology was unique and Yahoo is looking to complete its portfolio of internet technology. Yahoo is also the current leader in fantasy sports popularity. So this acquisition makes a lot of sense to acquire search technology that does have fantasy sports applications.
Content and Big Data technologies are going to be the next beachhead that will be a hot area for fantasy sports technologies as more and more companies look to get a competitive advantage over the other.
